The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia files new charges against Nika Gvaramia, the former Director of Rustavi 2, the investigation agency has reported about this a few days ago. Gvaramia arrived in the Prosecutor's Office to file new charges, during which he said that “instead of coming here without a reason, I will be taking my dog for a walk every time I have to visit the office.”
As for the accusation, Gvaramia thinks that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the Georgian Dream party, is trying to get rid of his opponents, including Gvaramia himself.
After leaving the prosecutor's office, Gvaramia said that his wife had bought the car involved in the case, but that neither she nor Gvaramia himself had been questioned.
“It’s already in their habit to charge me without questioning. What if I have special evidence, or what if I am saying that I’m guilty?” noted Gvaramia.
“I had bought the car by a loan, I could not pay it, took it back and now I’m paying the fine. That’s the whole story,” said Gvaramia.
According to the prosecutor’s office, in February 2019, the director-general of Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company selected a new Porsche Macan S. car worth € 76 700 for his and his family's personal use.
According to the prosecution, on 27 February 2019, Porsche Center and LTD Proesko Media signed a contract for the purchase of a car with a value of 76,700 euros, on the basis of which the car was transferred to Nika Gvaramia and his family, while the official owner of the car was the media company.
Investigators believe that Nika Gvaramia and his family, in the course of their actions, obtained a “factual ownership” of a luxurious car, while Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company suffered significant material damage.
Nika Gvaramia denies the accusation and assesses the prosecutor's office as a criminal organization.
Gvaramia was charged once in August by the Prosecutor’s Office for abusing his power and making decisions which, according to the office, were harmful to Rustavi 2. The office accuses Gvaramia of actions, because of which the company was not able to receive GEL 6 763 510.
The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a case of possible misappropriation of funds by the former management of Rustavi 2 and the concealment of property.
